(I wrote this poem while reading Augustine’s ‘Confessions’ – it is part reflection on his writings, part response to how I felt God move in me while reading the text. ‘Confessions’ is well worth the read if you are so inclined.)

Augustine Poem

Conceived by You

That I might conceive of You.

Born of You

That I might be borne by You.

Enlivened, so that my living might be lively;

Enraptured, my heart ruptured to overflow.

My sight returned, that You might be sought

My soul enlightened to bear Light;

Alive, to declare Death dead!
