(An excerpt from a Pentecost liturgy. I was deeply touched by the weight of these prayers.

I hope that you will find praying them as meaningful as I did.)

Spirit of God,

you are the breath of creation,

the wind of change that blows through our lives;

come now and show us what is true.

In a world where many go hungry

and others have an abundance of food,

come, Holy Spirit, and show us what is true.

In a world where many are overworked

and many more have no work,

come, Holy Spirit, and show us what is true.

In a world where some are bound in various kinds of prisons

and yet many have the freedom to manipulate the lives of others,

come, Holy Spirit, and show us what is true.

Come, Holy Spirit, fill the hearts of your faithful

and enkindle in us the fire of your love.

Come, Holy Spirit,

and renew the whole creation.

Amen

In a world where open hands reach out to give and receive,

yet many hands clutch to themselves what they have,

come, Holy Spirit, and show us what is true.

In a world where the voices of those in pain and suffering go unheard,

whilst some listen only to the beating of their own hearts,

come, Holy Spirit, and show us what is true.

In a world where faith is shared and common ground brings action,

yet religious extremism brings violence and separation,

come, Holy Spirit, and show us what is true.

In a Church which preaches the Love of God,

yet acts in judgement on many,

come, Holy Spirit, and show us what is true.
